A realistic Goa trip budget for 4 days and 3 nights is ₹5,000 to ₹6,500 per person per day as a backpacker, ₹11,000 to ₹18,000 mid-range, and ₹21,000 to ₹37,000 if you want a good hotel and a car.
These figures exclude getting to Goa. A sleeper train from Mumbai adds under ₹1,000 return, while a December flight from Delhi can add ₹25,000 or more. All figures are approx., as of November 2026.
The biggest swing in any Goa budget is the date. Room rates and airfares between 22 December and 2 January can be two to three times the early-December price. If your dates are flexible, that one decision saves more than any other tip in this guide.

Getting to Goa: Comparing travel options Train vs Flight
Train
Konkan Railway is the budget traveller's best friend. A sleeper berth from Mumbai to Goa costs about ₹350–420 one way, and the trip takes 11 to 13 hours. AC classes cost more, up to about ₹2,500. Trains such as the Matsyagandha Express and the Mumbai–Madgaon services run on this route. Book 60 days ahead for December.
Flights. Goa has two airports: Mopa (GOX) in North Goa, close to Anjuna, Vagator and Morjim, and Dabolim (GOI) in South Goa, closer to Palolem and Cavelossim. Pick the one nearer your stay, as a cross-state taxi can wipe out your airfare savings. Typical one-way fares reported for 2026:
Route (one way) | Off-Season | December | Christmas–New Year week |
|---|---|---|---|
Mumbai–Goa | ₹2,800–4,500 | ₹7,500–14,000 | ₹11,000–22,000 |
Delhi–Goa | ₹4,500–7,000 | ₹12,000–22,000 | ₹18,000–35,000+ |
Bengaluru–Goa | ₹3,500–5,500 | ₹8,000–16,000 | Not reported |

Goa trip cost for stay - where to stay on a budget?
- Hostels
Dorm beds in Anjuna, Vagator and Arambol cost around ₹450–550 a night with AC and Wi-Fi in the shoulder season. In late December, expect ₹800–1,800.
- Budget hotels and guesthouses
Plan on ₹2,500–5,000 a night for a clean double room in peak season. Booking 60 days ahead can bring this down by a third or more, according to Happyfares.
- Beach huts
Palolem huts cost about ₹1,500–3,500 off-peak and ₹4,000–7,000 between 24 December and 2 January.
A simple rule: North Goa (Baga, Calangute, Anjuna) is cheaper for nightlife and hostels, while South Goa (Palolem, Agonda) is quieter and better for couples and families.
Getting around Goa - Comparing scooter, bus and taxi costs
- Scooter
Scooter rental is the cheapest way to see Goa. An Activa costs about ₹300–400 a day, and Gomantak Times says to add ₹100–300 a day in peak season.
Split between two people with petrol, that works out to roughly ₹1,000–1,200 each for four days. Wear a helmet and carry your licence and rental papers: the helmet fine is reported at ₹1,000.
- Kadamba buses
Goa's state buses cost ₹25–40 between towns, compared with ₹800–1,200 for a private taxi on the same route.
- Taxis
Short auto-rickshaw hops in North Goa cost ₹100–300. A full-day taxi with a driver for a South Goa day trip costs about ₹2,500–4,500. App cabs can surge sharply at night in peak season.
Food and drink costs
Food is where the Goa trip budget quietly leaks. Eat where locals eat, and it stays low:
- Goan thali at a local restaurant: ₹120–200
- Beach shack thali: ₹300–550
- Fish curry rice at a well-known restaurant: ₹250–700
- Bakery snacks such as bebinca or prawn rissois: ₹30–60
- Tender coconut: about ₹60-₹90
A backpacker can eat well on ₹450–600 a day. Budget ₹800–1,250 a day for mid-range, with one shack dinner.
Water sports and sightseeing
Beaches, Chapora Fort, Se Cathedral and the Fontainhas Latin Quarter in Panjim are free or nearly free to visit. Water sports are where costs go up.
In October 2025, Goa's Department of Tourism announced uniform water sports rates across the state:
- Combo of any three rides (jet ski, banana, bumper): ₹1,100 per person
- Banana ride: ₹1,000 per ride for five people
- Dolphin-spotting trip: ₹350–800 per person
- Parasailing (winch boat): ₹6,000 per trip, shared by up to 12 people
