A Vietnam trip from India costs about ₹35,000-50,000 per person for 5 days and ₹38,000-64,000 for 7 days on a tight budget, or ₹68,000-1,15,000 for a comfortable 7-day mid-range trip, including return flights, the e-visa, hotels, food and local travel (approx., as of November 2026).

Flights are the biggest single cost; book 6-8 weeks ahead and fly into Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City on a direct route to keep the total down.

Flights from India to Vietnam: the biggest cost

Return economy fares usually fall between ₹18,000 and ₹40,000, depending on the city and how early you book. Kolkata is often the cheapest starting point because IndiGo flies it nonstop to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi is under 3.5 hours away.

Nonstop routes listed in July 2026 by Zurich Kotak :

  • Delhi: Hanoi (Air India, IndiGo, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet) and Ho Chi Minh City (Air India, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet), about 4.5-5.5 hours
  • Mumbai: Ho Chi Minh City (VietJet, Vietnam Airlines) and Hanoi (VietJet)
  • Kolkata: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (IndiGo)
  • Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kochi: VietJet or Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi and/or Ho Chi Minh City; Ahmedabad also to Da Nang
  • Chennai: no nonstop flight; expect one stop and 7-9 hours

Budget carriers like VietJet charge extra for checked bags, so compare the fare with baggage added.

Vietnam visa cost for Indians

Indians need a visa for mainland Vietnam. The e-visa costs US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry, is valid for up to 90 days, and usually takes about 3 working days (longer in peak season), per the Wego visa guide. Apply only on the official portal, evisa.gov.vn; agent sites charge extra.

One exception: Phu Quoc island allows visa-free stays of up to 30 days if you fly in directly from abroad and stay only on the island. If you plan to visit the mainland too, get the e-visa.

Hotels in Vietnam: cost per night

Vietnam is cheaper than most of Southeast Asia for stays. Typical per-night rates, per JustWravel's 2026 guide:

  • Hostel dorm: ₹400-900
  • Budget hotel: ₹1,000-2,000
  • Mid-range hotel: ₹1,800-4,000
  • Boutique or luxury: ₹4,000-15,000+

Hanoi's Old Quarter and Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 have the widest choice. Da Nang and Hoi An cost slightly more in peak season.

Food costs: street food to Indian meals

A bowl of pho or a banh mi costs about ₹100-250, and a street-food day rarely goes beyond ₹900 per person. Budget ₹600-900 a day for local eating and ₹1,200-2,000 if you mix cafés and restaurants. Indian restaurants exist in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang but cost more, about ₹1,500 and up per meal.

Vegetarians: look for "chay" (vegetarian) restaurants, common near pagodas. Fish sauce is used widely, so ask before you order.

Getting around Vietnam

  • Grab rides in cities: 30,000-70,000 dong, about ₹110-255 per short ride
  • Airport to central Hanoi: about US$10-15 by taxi or Grab
  • Sleeper bus between cities: about ₹400-1,200 per trip
  • Domestic flight (e.g. Hanoi-Da Nang): about ₹2,500-6,000 one way if booked 2-3 weeks ahead
  • Scooter rental: about ₹400-800 a day (you need an International Driving Permit to ride legally)

5-day and 7-day Vietnam itinerary costs

5 days (Hanoi + Ha Long Bay): Two nights in Hanoi, a Ha Long Bay day cruise (US$45-100 with transfers) or an overnight cruise (from about US$108), and a day in Ninh Binh. Approx. ₹35,000-50,000 per person on a budget, ₹55,000-85,000 mid-range.

7 days (Hanoi + Ha Long Bay + Da Nang/Hoi An): Add a domestic flight to Da Nang, the Hoi An old town and a day at the beach. Approx. ₹38,000-64,000 per person on a budget, ₹68,000-1,15,000 mid-range.

Vietnam trip cost for a couple: Rooms are shared, so a couple pays about 1.7-1.8 times the solo budget, not double: roughly ₹65,000-1,10,000 for a 7-day budget trip and ₹1,20,000-2,00,000 mid-range (approx., as of November 2026).

When is Vietnam cheapest to visit?

Vietnam has three weather zones, so there is no single "best" month:

  • North (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay): October-December and March-April are the best windows; January-February can be cold and grey
  • Central (Da Nang, Hoi An): rainy from about September to January, with the typhoon risk highest in October; best from February to August
  • South (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc): dry from December to April

Fares and hotel prices are lowest in the shoulder months (May to early June, late September to October) and climb 30-50% or more over December-February, especially around Tet, which falls around 6 February 2027 (provisional), per Zurich Kotak's best-time guide. Booking flights 3-4 months ahead usually costs less than booking late.

How to cut your Vietnam trip cost

  1. Fly into one city and out of another (Hanoi in, Ho Chi Minh City out) to skip backtracking.
  2. Use Grab instead of street taxis to avoid fare disputes.
  3. Pay in dong, not dollars. Rates on the street are usually worse in USD.
  4. Carry a forex card plus some cash; a week usually needs about ₹15,000-20,000 in cash for street food, markets and small shops [CHECK].
  5. Book Ha Long Bay cruises directly with licensed operators, and read what transfers and meals are included.

Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes, for the mainland. Apply for the e-visa on evisa.gov.vn: US$25 single entry or US$50 multiple entry, valid up to 90 days. Phu Quoc island alone allows up to 30 days visa-free if you arrive there directly from abroad.

How much cash should I carry to Vietnam?
